Tortoise

The Tortoise is part of the family of reptiles. In addition to its reputation as a very slow animal, what characterizes the Tortoise is its shell! It is a real protection, very effective against predators. It is a real armor, very hard and very resistant composed of a belly plastron and a convex carapace. This carapace, made of bone and scales, also allows the Tortoise to camouflage itself and regulate its temperature. The ground Tortoise feeds mainly on plants and insects and spends most of its time looking for food. All Tortoises are oviparous, that is, they lay eggs. The laying takes place once a year and the eggs are carefully buried until hatching. The young Tortoises, once released from their shells, are autonomous and left to their own devices. Tortoises live on average fifty years. Nevertheless some giant Tortoises can live much longer, more than 200 years!
